We run a range of school programs to fit the needs of school curricula and actively engage schoolchildren in the Reserves to learn about their local environment. This includes running a program for Environment Week for Schools for the Mornington Peninsula schools in March.
Typically, a group of children visit the Reserves and our Volunteers give them an explanation of what they are looking at, in terms of indigenous plants, weeds, water bugs, rubbish and their causes.
Children are then engaged in activities (weeding, planting, collecting rubbish, sorting rubbish, monitoring) to experience the natural environment. Programs may be one-off sessions or run for several sessions. Teachers are expected to be involved in supervision during the activities and to play an active part in the program.
